The History

Agua Linda Farm is 60 acres located along the lush Santa Cruz River.  The adobe home was built by rancher and farmer Carlos Ronstadt in the '40's.  Josias Joesler was the architect and is known for designs incorporating burnt adobe bricks and red tile roofs that have come to be the signature "Arizona" style of construction.

Carlos sold the property in the '50's to movie producer, Arthur Loew Jr. whose family had founded Paramont and MGM pictures.  Arthur always wanted to have a ranch in Arizona after speding time in Tucson as a young man and Agua Linda Farm was the realization of that dream.  While running the business, Arthur would travel back and forth from Los Angeles bringing his Holliwood friends for visits - Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Kelly and Joan Collins - to name a few.  In the late 60's, Arthur brought his new wife, Regina to Agua Linda and she made the grounds surrounding the home her passion, cultivating roses and other flowers around the hacienda.  After retiring from the cattle business, the farm went fallow for many years until Arthur's son, Stewart Loew turned on the old agricultural well and began an organic vegetable and beef farm with his wife, Laurel.  The couple grew a variety of crops that they sold at local restaurants, farmer's markets at the farm's store and through a Community Supported Agriculture program.  They toiled in the soil for years before having their first pumpkin festival on the farm which was such a success that they realized that what their biggest commodity was - the beautiful property itself.  People wanted to visit Agua Linda Farm.  More festivals were organized to satisfy the demand - a Garlic and Onion Festival, Day on the Farm events and an Easter celebration were all added to the annual calendar.  Stewart and Laurel, with the help of many workers, family, volunteers and interns farmed the land for over 17 years, and though they loved the life of farming, it was just not paying the bills and with new pumpkin farms now competing for that part of the business, the Loews decided it was time to make a change.

Fortunately, because of the beauty of Agua Linda, a new businesses had slowly been emerging - private events on the farm.  Weddings and Music Events have become the focus of Stewart and Laurel's changing business and they are thrilled that they fell into a niche that allows them to keep living and working at their beloved Agua Linda Farm!
